  2. Review PPE usage: safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, etc.
  3. Introduce tools (drills, circular/miter saw, wireless nailer, speed square, metal shears, etc.).
  4. Emphasize safety protocols when handling power tools.

  5. Foundation Layout (1 hour)

  6. Measure and mark the shed’s footprint on the ground.

  11. Secure joists with hangers and exterior-grade screws.
  12. Check for proper spacing (commonly 16” on-center).

  13. Floor Panels (1 hour)

  14. Vapor Barrier Clarification: A dedicated vapor barrier is generally not required for raised sheds built with pressure-treated wood. However, proper ventilation or a moisture barrier can be considered for extremely damp conditions.
  15. Install tongue-and-groove plywood floor panels.
  16. Fasten floor panels every 8” along each joist for secure installation.
  17. Cover the foundation with a tarp at the end of the day to protect it from weather.

Non-Class (Teacher) Work

  • Double-check that the foundation remains square and level.
  • Finish securing floor panels if not completed during class.
  • Organize and store tools and materials for the next session.

Week 2: Walls and Windows

Frame and install the walls and windows.

Class Agenda (4 Hours)

  1. Wall Framing Basics (30 min)
  2. Discuss framing techniques, measuring studs, and wall layout using a chalk line or speed square.
  3. Emphasize proper nailing patterns and maintaining a square frame.

  4. Build Wall Frames (1.5 hours)

  5. Measure, cut, and assemble 2x4 studs according to wall height specifications.
  6. Raise frames for all four walls and secure them to the floor.
  7. Sheathing/Siding: Mark openings for doors and windows before cutting.

  8. Install Windows and Door (1.5 hours)

  9. Cut openings for windows and the pre-hung door in the framing.
  10. Secure window and door frames, add flashing around the edges, and fill gaps with spray foam insulation.

  10. Staple a vapor barrier under roof panels.
  11. Add underlayment (felt paper or synthetic roll) on top of roof sheathing.

  12. Install Corrugated Roof Panels (1 hour)

  13. Secure metal panels using roofing screws with rubber washers.
